Partnered Adoption Application
We wish we could support every applicant, but we have
limited resources available.
We may approve the full request, part of the request, or deny the application altogether. Applications are read with care, and many people on our team have living/lived experiences of poverty and layered marginalization. Partnered Adoptions are available on a rolling basis, until resources have run out. Approval and prioritization is based on the family’s current situation, their suitability as adopters, and available resources.
Let us know if you have any accommodation needs, or require assistance in filling this application out. We would be happy to go through it together. Skip any questions you do not want to answer.
Please fill out one application per household AND a general “Adoption Application” found on our website.
We will let you know as soon as we are able. If you haven’t heard from us within 1 week, feel free to reach out.

PROGRAM REQUESTS
We believe everyone should have the opportunity to love an animal as family.
Partnered Adoptions
aim to
reduce barriers to companionship
for people who’ve been under-resourced / marginalized (low-income, etc.). Through this initiative, Rainbow Rat Refuge collaborates with adopters (you!) to give homes to rats in need.
You can access the following supports: reduced or waived adoption fees, and a cage/accessory lending service (for as long as needed, even the life of your rats).
Rats are some of the most misunderstood, smartest, silliest, and snuggliest of creatures!
By choosing to adopt, you’re not only benefiting them, but opening up space in our organization to save more.
This is just one aspect of our
Community Rat Care Program
. The Partnered Adoption
does not
cover ongoing costs such as for food, substrate, and enrichment, so these would be your responsibility. It also
does not
provide money for veterinary expenses, so this would be your responsibility. We do have a
Sharing Shelf
for rat caregivers struggling financially, though it is not always stocked full. We also offer
Sliding Scales
(reduced prices) on our online store.
If at any time you are having difficulty caring for your adopted rats, we will support you in exploring options, navigating services, and take them back into our care if necessary.
We know the upfront cost of a suitable setup is HIGH, and we've now seen this partnership work.
Please think carefully and take your time answering each question.
If we can’t support you through this initiative, we would love to talk more about other ways we can collaborate! And please, spread the word!
Partnered Adoptions have the potential to improve peoples’ lives, and create more homes for sweet rats awaiting intake.
Please tell us what parts of this program you want to be approved for. Select all that apply:
*
Reduced adoption fee of $15/rat (in place of $35/rat)
Cage lending service (for as long as needed, even for the life of your rats)
Accessory lending service (for as long as needed, even for the life of your rats)
Assistance with transportation of adopted rats
Other, please specify:
