Vet Care Subsidy Application

Our Vet Care Subsidy Program is in place because we know that keeping animals with their families is often best for everyone. We know times can be tough. Through this application, you may be able to access financial assistance to reduce the costs of veterinary care for your rat when they are in need of emergency, lifesaving medical treatment, or end-of-life care.

We wish we could support every qualifying applicant, but we have limited resources available. We may approve the full request, part of the request, or deny the application altogether. Applications are read with care, and many people on our team have living/lived experiences of poverty and layered marginalization. Vet Care Subsidies are available on a rolling basis, until resources have run out. Approval and prioritization is based on the family’s current level of financial need, opinion of the treating veterinarian regarding the medical necessity, urgency, and prognosis, and fund availability .

APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED WHEN:

Your rat is in need of urgent medical attention
The veterinarian has determined your rat has a good prognosis with treatment, OR
The veterinarian has determined that this end-of-life/palliative care would be in the best interests of the rat, OR
The veterinarian has recommended humane euthanasia and this is what you're seeking assistance for
You can tell us about your financial need, and it is significant
The treatment plan has not yet been paid for. We do not reimburse.
We have Vet Care Subsidy Funds available.

WE REQUIRE:

Your rat to have been already been seen by a licensed veterinarian for the presenting health concern, OR
We have seen evidence of the injury/illness (photo or video)
A copy of the treatment plan estimate
Discussion with the treating veterinarian to confirm that the veterinarian recommends the course of treatment, or humane euthanasia that subsidy is being sought for

VET CARE SUBSIDY AGREEMENT
For those granted subsidy, Rainbow Rat Refuge will determine the amount and conditions to receive the funds. If we approve an application, we will contact the Applicant, and the treating Veterinarian to confirm information shared here. By submitting this application, the Applicant consents to the sharing of any and all information provided in this application (between Rainbow Rat Refuge and the treating veterinarian's office). Treatment will only be covered when it has been scheduled after both parties have been notified by a Rainbow Rat Refuge representative. The Vet Care Subsidy granted will be paid directly to the treating veterinarian. The balance remaining after the subsidy amount is the financial responsibility of the family.

I release Rainbow Rat Refuge, its officers, and volunteers from any and all liability and I understand that they cannot assure or be held accountable for the quality or outcome of any medical treatments.
